Despite including all the DLC, the game still feels extremely light on content I can only imagine how bare-bones it must've felt before the DLC (it seems the DLC gets integrated seemlessly into the main game to the point where I didn't even realise I was using it until I noticed I'd earned quite a few trophies from the DLC packs). Overall, Summer Lesson is a unique and interesting experience, but I can't recommend it at the €60 price I paid for it. For example, when presented with an option for conversion, I instead just leaned forward towards the girl and she got angry at me because she thought I was trying to look at her phone screen. The moment where the girl fed me cake was oddly one of the most immersive and convincing moments I've had in VR. The game is obviously designed for repeat play-through everything you unlock carries over to a new game, so you can get better results each time you play due to having more options, more items, increased lesson levels, etc.Īside from the inherent novelty of interaction with a human character (which is still extremely rare in VR games), some of the "creepier" moments are actually the most interesting from an experiential viewpoint. For example, I think it would've been really cool if the subtitles appeared as comic-style speech bubbles above/next to the girl. I would have much preferred subtitles in the 3D game-space, rather than in screen-space. During one scene, she was sat right next to me and none of the subtitles were displayed, so I had no idea what she was saying during that scene. An additional problem is that when the girl is close to you, the subtitles don't show, and sometimes this seems to be unavoidable. they move with your head), so you constantly have to move your eyes down to read them. The subtitles are pretty bad they're locked to the center of the screen (i.e. The game uses Japanese voice with English subtitles. Sometimes there are multiple options and the girl gets different (better/worse) stat increases depending on your choice. There's minimal interaction on each day sometimes there is only one "option", which you select just by looking at it to trigger the scene to progress. After seven days, you get an ending based on how well you managed to increase the girls stats (Intelligence, Insight, Determination, etc.). Not to deny the fan-service, but it's extremely mild.Ī play-through only takes about an hour you just select a lesson, a chat topic and (optionally) an item for each day. unique VR game, and while a few parts are slightly weird/creepy, the game as a whole is actually a lot more "innocent" than trailers and impressions would have you believe. :p Since I haven't seen much discussion about it here, I thought I'd share my impressions after playing it for a while. So my copy of Summer Lesson finally ( finally!) arrived from Play-Asia.
